Who:  Maribel and David, an airline couple with commuting experience, operate Pilot Projects crashpads together.  They understand the needs and priorities of the airline professional.

What:  Pilot Projects operates legally licensed crashpads.  All buildings have commercial occupancy permits and are subject to safety and fire inspections.  Your safety and comfort are our top priority.

Where:  The crashpads are conveniently located a few minutes east of the STL airport.  1.7 miles door to terminal.

Why: The mission of Pilot Projects is to reduce the stress associated with commuting by providing convenient, inexpensive, living and sleeping accommodations for professional airline crew members.  Well maintained buildings offering safe, clean, and pleasant environments allow for a better quality of life while away from home.

When:  Pilot Projects has been providing a home away from home to airline crew members since June 2002.

How do I get there?  A local business will, as a courtesy, allow crew members to ride their vans to and from the airport.  From the airport go outside to the second island and ask the van driver if you can ride with them.  To get to the airport, just short walk to (the business) lot and ask the driver if you can ride to the airport.  The vans are available from early morning (4:30am) until past midnight (2:00 am).  Please be sure to tip the driver for the ride.  Please be professional.

How much and How do I pay?  $175/pp a month (Now available, Bunk Bed Room-Three Bunk Beds/6 people for $140/pp a month), $25/nt nightly.  Cash, check, or money order.  Please make checks payable to “Pilot Projects”.  Sorry no credit cards.  Payment for monthly beds must be received by the 25th of the month prior to your monthly stay.  Please feel free to postdate checks to the 1st of the month.  Payment for nightly stays can be dropped in a deposit slot any time during your stay, but we suggest taking care of it upon arrival.  Please use the payment envelopes provided in the rooms.

When can I arrive? When do I need to leave?  Your month begins at 5pm the night prior to the bid month and ends at 5pm the last day of the bid month.  Nightly arrival and departure times are flexible.  Early arrivals and late departures are not a problem, we will work with you.

When can I call for a room?  Nightly, you can call when your bids come out, a week before, or the same day that you need the room.  If all rooms are taken when you call we will put you on our “standby list” and call you when a room becomes available.  If you are flexible you may still get a room and save some money.  Monthly, the sooner the better.  We fill openings on a first call, first served basis.  If there are no openings when you call, we will put your name on a waiting list and let you know as beds become available.

What if my schedule changes?  Call us.  We understand trip trades, sickness, and reassignments, but if you need to cancel a night you booked, we ask that you do so by noon (Central Time) of that day.  If after 12 noon, please be responsible for the payment for that day.

What do I need to bring with me?  Your personal toiletries such as soap and shampoo.

Can I leave my belongings in the room?  Absolutely yes.  All bedroom doors lock when closed and each room has a closet you share and your own dresser.  Please feel free to leave whatever you need to make your stay comfortable for the month.

Do you have hairdryers?  Yes, one in each bathroom.  We also have ironing boards, irons, alarm clocks, dressers, closets, vacuums, and more.  We supply laundry soap, paper towels, trash bags, dish soap, dryer sheets, cleaning supplies, and toilet paper.

Do I need to clean?  Yes and no.  You are expected to clean up after yourself in your room and the common areas.  We contract with a cleaning company to clean only the common areas once a week in the main building and once a month in the houses. They will not clean for anyone.  They will not do dishes, vacuum your room, do laundry or other personal cleaning.

Are there any places to eat around the crashpads?  There are many places to eat near the crashpads.  Wendy’s, Del Taco, Waffle House, Jack in the Box, Arby’s, Steak and Shake, Au Bon Pain, and Denny’s are within a few minutes walk.  Applebee’s, Subway, Bandanas, Chinese and a great Mexican restaurant are within a mile and a half of the crashpad.

What about shopping?  Shop and Save Supermarket and Walgreens pharmacy are within walking distance.  A public bus line stops near the crashpad and will take you to NorthWest Plaza shopping mall which is also near a Walmart.  At the airport you can catch the Metro Link train to downtown St. Louis, with stops at the Central West End, Forest Park, and the Arch.

Is there any place to work out?  We have a very nice work out area that is available for your use no matter which one of our crashpads you stay in.  Our workout room (garage) includes a TWO True treadmill, Eliptical, Recumbent Bike, Stairmaster 4000pt step climber, a Paramount three station universal workout fitness machine, Olympic free weights and benches, and various accessories to help keep you fit and work off some to that stress from the job.  Please see pictures under Fitness Center and Pool.

Misc.  No smoking in the buildings by order of fire marshall.  Ash receptacles provided outside buildings.
